A model that opens is not automatically ready for machining, printing, fabrication, measurement, or inspection. This category helps you separate the shape that crossed the boundary from the production and quality information that the next task may require.
Start with the downstream task
Ask what the recipient must do next and what evidence must remain traceable. The answer changes the handoff: a CAM programmer may need usable geometry and must rebuild operations; an additive workflow may need material, lattice, production, or slice payload; an inspection workflow may need semantic characteristics, a measurement plan, resources, and linked results.

A common decision rule
Describe the transfer as source environment → representation or mechanism → recipient → downstream objective. Then state which information is authoritative, which information the recipient must regenerate, and how the result will be checked. A format name or successful import is only one part of that decision.
